Hong Kong IT vacancies rose 18% in Q1

IT vacancies including supervisors, managers, programmers, and database administrators rose 18 percent quarter-on-quarter to 28,988 in Q1, said Robert Walters Friday.

Robert Walters tracks advertisement volumes for professional positions across the leading job boards and national newspapers in Hong Kong, Singapore, China and Japan.

Across the board, the level of job advertisements in Hong Kong remained largely consistent from Q4 2010 to Q1 2011, with a rise of only 4 percent, said the company.

This is in line with expectations for the beginning of the year as yearly budgets are finalized and candidates await bonus payments before considering changing jobs, said Matthew Bennett, managing director, Robert Walters Hong Kong.

"Hong Kong continues to experience strong year on year growth and the significant rise of 49 percent during the quarter suggests positive sentiment within the market," Bennett noted.
