ZTE Corp., China"s largest listed telecommunications equipment manufacturer and leading wireless solutions provider, has expanded its operations in the region with the opening of its Asia Pacific headquarters in Singapore recently.

"Singapore is the flagship market in this region: the local operators are focused on delivering the very latest technology to meet the demands of a sophisticated customer base," said Yin Yimin, president and chief executive officer of ZTE.

The Asia Pacific region is particularly important to ZTE, said Yin. "By being close to our customers here in Singapore, and the rest of the Asia Pacific region, ZTE is well-placed to offer local services and support to our valued customers," he added. The Asia Pacific headquarters is located at Parkview Square.

ZTE offers customized network solutions for telecom carriers worldwide. The company develops and manufactures telecommunications equipment for fixed, mobile, data and optical networks, intelligent networks and next generation networks as well as mobile phones.

"With its substantial investment into R&D, and its proprietary intelligent property rights, ZTE illustrates the strength of Chinese companies in high-technology markets," said Zhang Yun, the Chinese Ambassador to Singapore, who was speaking at the opening of the ZTE office. Earlier this year, ZTE announced that it is to supply an Intelligent Network (IN) system to support the IDD prepaid customers of mobile network operator MobileOne.

ZTE is also expanding rapidly in the Asia Pacific region. In the last nine months, it has won contracts in Bangladesh, Laos, Indonesia, India, Vietnam, Thailand and Nepal.

Last year, ZTE continued its global expansion, with its solutions deployed in over 60 countries around the world. Overseas contract sales rose to US$1,644 million in 2004, representing a 169.5 per cent year-on-year increase.
