Considering how much value OpenShot brings me, it was a no-brainer for me to send a monetary donation to Jonathan Thomas via the OpenShot website. You can, too, if you feel the world could use a top-quality, free video editor. If you'd like to join in the programming effort for OpenShot,

Back in 2006, I wanted to create a multitrack video explaining four points of view on Warren Buffet's gift of $30 billion to the Gates Foundation. I didn't have the money to buy and learn Apple's Final Cut software, so I created this video, , using Apple's QuickTime Pro. This 5-minute video took 10 hours to make using QuickTime Pro. While making this video, I thought to myself: "In the next few years a free video editor will be developed that will let anyone make this kind of video with a minimum of effort and cost." OpenShot is that video editing program.

The way we express appreciation for the creation of such an incredible free tool is to use it. Doing so is the nicest way of saying thanks to Jonathan Thomas and the other programmers who have created this tool. These programmers have given voice to many who otherwise would not have a voice. This tool can be put to use by the 53 million K-12 students in Brazil, where Linux has been adopted throughout the country. It can be put to use by volunteers and relief workers around the world. It can be used by , drama teachers, artists, dancers, makers, satirists, literacy activists, community activists, , and filmmakers. Many interesting stories will see the light of day because of OpenShot. I can't wait to see those stories.
